Is it possible to "practice resurrection?" The Earliest Church took Jesus' post-resurrection appearances, not as mere indications of Jesus' one-time victory over death but as the harbingers of a new world and the types of practices needed to help shape this new world. The lectionary editors have seen fit to use the same gospel reading for the second Sunday of Easter in each year of the cycle; Fr. Allen asserts that this is because all other discussions of what the Resurrection may continue to mean for communities of faith are meaningless without the foundational practice highlighted in Jesus' first appearance to the male disciples in John's Gospel.
